Dr. Danielle McKinnon, Director of Equity & Diversity
Born in South Carolina and raised in Orlando, FL, Dr. McKinnon has always stood up for what was right and valued the rich culture and history of being a being a person of color since childhood. She earned her academic degrees from The Florida State University, Troy University, and Capella University. She also holds academic certifications in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion from Cornell University and University of South Florida, while continuously pursuing lifelong education.
Through her education and skillset in academic leadership, counseling and psychology, she has served in postsecondary education for over a decade in a series of progressively responsible roles in student services and academic affairs that have often been new to an institution. She passionately applies an equitable lens to her work and began leading DEI initiatives in various capacities. Her most valued roles include serving as the Founding Chair of Valencia College’s African Heritage Committee (now Valencia African Heritage Association), Employee Resource Group Development Coach, Cultural-Awareness Event Coordinator and more importantly - being a mother. In October 2020, Dr. McKinnon began serving as Brevard Public Schools’ Director of Equity and Diversity - a new role that will assist the district in transformative and collaborative DEI-B (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging) advancement and commitment through a culture of respect and dignity to eradicate student achievement and employment inequities.
