    Welcome Shooting Stars and families!

My name is Robin Guenther.  I feel privileged and excited to continue growing the STEAM program at WMSS.

Our STEAM Lab will still offer students in grades K-6 many opportunities to become immersed in the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and design challenges, Art, and Math (STEAM).

    WMSS STEAM Vision/Focus Statement

Through an interdisciplinary STEAM program, our vision is to develop each student’s 21st century skills of communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking/problem solving.

To prepare our students for an active role in our Space Coast community, the WMSS STEAM program is project based, engaging students in engineering design challenges that encourage inquiry and exploration. Through these challenges, our students develop skills to creatively assess and solve problems utilizing the scientific method and the engineering design process.

    Overall Learning Objectives:

    • Ask questions, make observations and gather information about a problem
    • Design, plan, create, test and improve ideas
    • Expand creativity, imagination and artistic abilities
    • Cultivate interpersonal and collaborative skills

    WHY STEAM?

    • US Department of Education (https://www.ed.gov/stem) stated:

"In an ever-changing, increasingly complex world, it's more important than ever that our nation's youth are prepared to bring knowledge and skills to solve problems, make sense of information, and know how to gather and evaluate evidence to make decisions. These are the kinds of skills that students develop in science, technology, engineering, and math—disciplines collectively known as STEM. If we want a nation where our future leaders, neighbors, and workers have the ability to understand and solve some of the complex challenges of today and tomorrow, and to meet the demands of the dynamic and evolving workforce, building students' skills, content knowledge, and fluency in STEM fields is essential..."

    • Jobs in STEM fields are growing
    • Art belongs in STEM because creativity fuels innovation

  • Please help feed Creativity!
Creativity is the new STEAM Mascot. It is located between the Front Office and Cafeteria and serves as STEAM’s recycling materials collection center. At the present moment, the STEAM Lab has a low-tech Makerspace for the WMSS students. In order to provide as much creative material as possible, we are looking for recyclable items that can be used to imagine and build something unique.
Below is a list of materials we are looking for. By feeding Creativity you are assisting in the construction of our Makerspace.
