'Wear Red with Rendell 5K' Unites BPS for Heart Health Awareness
The BPS Wellness Department and Cigna teamed up with BPS Superintendent, Dr. Mark Rendell, to lead the Wear Red with Rendell 5K, an event aimed at boosting heart health awareness and encouraging physical activity. This event, open to all BPS employees, their families, and their friends, had over 120 participants from 35 different BPS schools/worksites, cultivating a sense of community and a collective dedication to fostering heart-healthy habits.
February is American Heart Month, a time when all people—especially women—are encouraged to focus on their cardiovascular health. In the United States, cardiovascular disease stands as the leading cause of death, with nearly 45% of women aged 20 and older living with some form of this disease. To kick off American Heart Month, the first Friday is celebrated as National Wear Red Day, an integral part of the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women initiative. This day encourages people to wear red to enhance awareness and support the battle against heart disease. The Wear Red with Rendell 5K emphasized BPS’ commitment to creating a wellness-oriented culture and highlighted the critical role of community involvement and leadership support in enhancing health and well-being.
