BPS, teachers’ union share proposals, will resume negotiations Tuesday
Sept. 16, 2019
VIERA, Florida -- Contract negotiations between Brevard Public Schools and the Brevard Federation of Teachers started Monday with the union proposing substantial raises and both sides proposing numerous ways to improve work conditions.
BPS negotiators did not reject the union’s pay request or make a counteroffer Monday. Instead, the negotiating teams agreed to meet again Tuesday under an accelerated schedule that both sides hope will lead to a competitive raise sooner for teachers.

- $1,725 for all teachers rated “effective.”
- $2,000 for all teachers who enter their 12th year of service for BPS. Nearly half of BPS teachers would qualify for this.
BFT did not present a cost analysis for its raise proposal, and the district had not yet computed one Monday night.
The bargaining teams will resume negotiations Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the media center at Viera High School, 6103 Stadium Parkway, Viera, Florida 32940. The meetings are open to the public.
