School Board Selects Dr. Mark Rendell as Next BPS Superintendent

Viera, FL -- During a specially called meeting, the school board voted to select Dr. Mark Rendell as the next superintendent for Brevard Public Schools.

 

Dr. Rendell has been the principal of Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School since 2019.

 

Statement from Dr. Rendell: “I am both honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve Brevard County in this role. I look forward to working with all of the members of the School Board and the district staff to support the work in the classroom. This will be a team effort and I believe that if we all work together we can achieve excellence. Brevard has been my home, both professionally and personally, for most of my career, so that makes this extra special. I am excited to close out the school year at Cocoa Beach Junior-Senior High School and get to work on this new challenge.”

 

Before coming to Cocoa Beach, Dr. Rendell was the superintendent of Indian River County Schools. In Brevard County, he has also been a principal at Titusville High and an assistant principal at Melbourne High, Eau Gallie High, and Cocoa High.

Dr. Rendell was one of three finalists the board discussed during the meeting. The vote by the board was 3-2 with the next step being to negotiate a contract and start date. The school board will then vote to approve the contract during an upcoming meeting.
