West Shore Student Receives Two National Community Service Awards

Madhumita Subbiah, a Junior at West Shore Jr/Sr High School, is a recipient of the National Community Service Ambassador Award and Blue Zero Hunger Award presented by InnerView, a leading national youth platform that helps students, groups, and schools highlight community service impact, passion for causes, and connect local efforts to the UN Global Goals.

She is the founder and president of Brevard STEM Outreach, a youth organization with the aim of increasing access to STEM education in Brevard County. Having attended an elementary school where STEM was highly encouraged, she was fortunate enough to explore the full potential of STEM. She now seek to provide opportunities for those who may not be as fortunate to explore the wonders of STEM. To achieve this goal, she has organized and conducted free STEM days at elementary school aftercare programs and raises funds for free summer camps that will introduce students to STEM and educate them on the prospects of a career in STEM.

Additionally, she has dedicated more than 100 hours of service to Club Esteem, a non-profit organization that encourages youth excellence. As a mentor, she worked with numerous students, helping them with school assignments and homework. This summer, through Brevard STEM Outreach, she will be conducting a free summer camp at Club Esteem, teaching students all about STEM through fun and engaging activities.

Working towards the cause of ending hunger, Madhu volunteered with the non-profit organization Daily Bread through West Shore’s Culinary Club. Along with other club members, she organized and helped cook, serve, and clean up after a weekend lunch serving.
